Four past U.S. presidents—John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John F. Kennedy, and George H.W. Bush—were all born in Massachusetts.
The state bird is the wild turkey.
The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth (which later became Massachusetts) in 1620.
Popular sports teams include the Boston Celtics (NBA), the New England Patriots (NFL), and the Boston Red Socks (MLB).

Interstates
Interstate 93, 95, 495, and many other state roads and highways run through the eastern half of the state. I-90, also known as the Massachusetts Turnpike, runs east and west from Boston to the New York State line.  In western Massachusetts, I-91 runs north and south from the Springfield area to Vermont, and then continues north to Canada.

Cities in Massachusetts
Boston is the capital of Massachusetts. It is also the state’s most populated city with over half a million residents. Boston is well-known for the events that took place there in the Revolutionary War. Since that time, it has become known as a center for politics and higher education.

Worcester is near the center of the state, just south of the Wachusett Reservoir. Worcester is known for its poets, and its Medieval Armor Museum.

Springfield is located just north of the Connecticut border in western Massachusetts. Springfield is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Lowell is the fourth largest city in Massachusetts. It is located in the northeast region of the state, just south of New Hampshire.

Cambridge is a suburb of Boston and is known as a center of learning and higher educations since it is home to The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

Brockton, New Bedford, Fall River, Quincy, and Lynn are some of the state’s other populated cities.  Pittsfield is the largest city in the far west region of Massachusetts.
